Code of Conduct

  • Respect and Inclusivity: Treat all participants, staff, and volunteers with respect, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religion, or dance level. Discrimination, harassment, or offensive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated.

  • Consent and Boundaries: All physical interactions, including asking for a dance and close-hold dancing, require clear, enthusiastic, and ongoing consent. "No" means no, and declining a dance should always be respected without pressure or retaliation. Be mindful of personal space and boundaries.

  • Safe Dance Floor Practices: Be aware of your surroundings and other dancers to prevent collisions. Avoid aerials, dips, or risky moves on a crowded social dance floor unless explicitly agreed upon with your partner in a safe, designated area.

  • Personal Hygiene and Well-being: Maintain good personal hygiene. If you are feeling unwell or have a transmissible illness, please prioritize the health of others and refrain from attending.

  • Responsible Conduct: Consume alcohol responsibly and be aware of your limits. Any illegal substances are strictly prohibited. Respect the venue and its property.

  • Reporting Unacceptable Behavior: If you witness or experience any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately to a staff member or organizer. All reports will be handled with confidentiality and appropriate action will be taken.

Consequences of Violation

Violations of this Code of Conduct will be taken seriously and may result in the following actions, at the discretion of the BBF25 organizers. The severity of the consequence will depend on the nature and impact of the violation.

  • Verbal Warning: For minor infractions, a verbal warning may be issued, clarifying the violated rule and expected behavior.

    • Examples of Minor Infractions:

      • Unsolicited dance advice or feedback to a partner on the social floor.

      • Minor breaches of dance floor etiquette (e.g., consistently bumping into others without apologizing).

      • Disruptive but non-aggressive behavior (e.g., loud talking during a performance or class instruction).

      • Minor disrespect of venue property (e.g., leaving small amounts of litter, easily cleaned up).

  • Temporary Suspension: For repeated minor infractions or more serious first-time offenses, a temporary suspension from the event (e.g., for a few hours or a day) may be enforced.

    • Examples of Serious First-Time Offenses:

      • Persistent unwanted attention after being asked to stop (e.g., repeatedly asking someone to dance after they have declined).

      • Verbal insults or derogatory comments that are not severe harassment.

      • Performing aerials/lifts on a crowded social dance floor, endangering others.

      • Significant disregard for venue rules that cause inconvenience (e.g., smoking in non-designated areas, bringing outside alcohol).

      • Intoxication that causes significant disruption or concern for safety, but without aggressive behavior.

  • Immediate Expulsion: For severe violations, including but not limited to harassment, assault, discrimination, or repeated disregard for the Code of Conduct, the violator will be immediately expelled from the festival without a refund.

    • Examples of Severe Violations (Leading to Immediate Expulsion):

      • Any form of physical or sexual harassment or assault.

      • Discriminatory language or actions based on protected characteristics (e.g., racist, sexist, homophobic slurs).

      • Continued unwanted physical contact after being told to stop.

      • Theft or significant damage to venue property or another person's belongings.

      • Physical altercations or threats of violence.

      • Illegal activities (e.g., drug dealing, underage drinking where prohibited by law and causing significant issue).

  • Reporting to Authorities: In cases involving illegal activities or serious threats to safety, organizers reserve the right to contact relevant legal authorities.

  • Future Event Restrictions: Individuals who are expelled from BBF25 may be barred from attending future events organized by us.
